Mythology

India is a country of fables and stories. Many of these stories form the basis of our beliefs. Collective belief system becomes religion. Mythology, true or false, defines our thought, culture, and lifestyle. India being predominantly a polytheist country, the people of India finds it easy to accept multiple interpretations of their deities. They understand, that there is your truth and my truth, but there may not be The Truth.

Home to the world's two epics: Ramayana and Mahabharata, even the illiterate through these takes of wisdom form the value system of their lives. In a multi-cultural country like India, mythological texts are abundant. The most notable are the Vedas, the Puranas and regional literature like the Tamil Periya Puranam and the Mangal Kavyas of Bengal. India mythology is also found in widely translated popular texts such as the fables of the Panchatantra and the Hitopadesha.
