It was 16th December 2007. A bomb blast in a minibus in which Artist Maikel Meetei was coming home, got both his legs amputated below the knees. He survived miraculously after consuming 22 units of O+ve blood. “With the help of my artificial limbs and gifts from God, that is my eyes, hands and mind, I was able to find my way through Visual Art”, says Artist Maikel Meetei. He completed BFA in painting with first class at Imphal Art College under Manipur University in 2010.
Artist Maikel Meetei has participated in state, national and international level exhibitions, camps and workshops and motivated people to look beyond their obstacles. A documentary on the life and work of Artist Maikel Meetai named “Unbeatable” was filmed by PSVT, New Delhi. “My one and only wish is to make artworks in the theme of “Present situation and Peace” and spread the message of peace all over the world in my lifetime”, adds Artist Maikel Meetei.
