Shades of a Woman

"The first thing to be understood: men and women are different; not only different, but opposites. But they are not unequal, they are equal. There is difference, there is oppositeness, there is a polarity, but they are not unequal, they are equal. Two opposites are always equal, otherwise they cannot oppose each other.

The second thing to be understood: The female body exists for a totally different purpose – biologically, physiologically, chemically. It has a different function to fulfill than the male body. And it is so different from the male body that unless you penetrate into the deeper layers of biology you will not be able to understand the difference. They exist as if in two worlds apart. The woman carries a womb."

Shades of Woman - Artist Anshu Pancholi

Artist Anshu Pancholi

Artist Anshu Pancholi was born and raised in Kamalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Having done her BFA from the Government Institute of Fine Arts (Indore) and then her MA in painting from Madhav College (Ujjain) Artist Anshu Pancholi has been an artist since her childhood. She has exhibited her work extensively nationally and internationally, winning several awards along the way.

To portray a woman in all her untold aspects is life’s mission for Artist Anshu Pancholi. Artist Anshu Pancholi portrays a woman as a unique creature that is different from what we actually know and perceive. Her work is aimed at rediscovering the woman as if she is not ‘seen’. She attempts to find ‘the Woman’. The woman in her paintings is a re-imagined one, reconstructed from the innermost bundle of her very own self. The woman she makes with all the rigmarole is a reflection of her own deepest yearnings and her own lived experiences and a rare, almost extinct philosophical view of the world. Her ‘women’ reside in her paintings, like goddesses within a temple, for the world to see and revere.
