The train to Kolkata felt like to Aschwitz. Like heap of dead lay people on berths and alleys. As we scanned for space, someone’s limb crawled out of upper berth and dangled before us. In the ominous gloom we were looking for a sanctuary of our own.

A group of youngsters were awake, readying to retire for the day. Bobby talked to them and they lend us a berth. My sister, Blossom and Potlu squeezed in it, and Bobby slept on the floor. I went to the door, and sat down smoking, listening to a Bangladeshi song...Ei rupali guiter fele ekdin chole jabo dure, bohu dure. Sedin chokhe osru tumi rekho gopon kore (One day I’ll leave this silver guitar and go away, far, very far. That day, keep tears in your eyes, secretively).
